The veterans, participants, and staff made CIM an incredibly meaningful experience. When asked about this ride, I always reply that we should be as appreciative of life as these wounded veterans and that they are an inspiration to us all. I’ll never forget watching one of the vets take off his prosthetic leg and play it as an “air guitar”, dancing around on his other leg. How can one not be overwhelmed by this, and him? The beauty of it all? They appreciate us as much as we appreciate them. I have formed relationships both with the vets and with my fellow riders over the last two years – all have impacted me. Thank you for the opportunity that you provide and making this such a great experience.

While I’ve volunteered with Beit Halochem Montreal for over 20 years, this was my first ride. It was exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. Beautifully organized, great hotels, super camaraderie, excellent meals and transportation. My highlights included the night walk in Jerusalem and learning of the history of Latrun. I hope to return this year.

The ride is a wonderful opportunity to experience Israel and her heroes – without whom the country could not exist. It is a great way to give back to these heroic men and women.

The veterans’ strength, determination, and perseverance is memorable and inspirational. They are courageous and the stars of the ride. The supporters are the Canadian and American riders, volunteers, and generous donors. Many of the veterans are strong now; physically, mentally, and emotionally. Of course, this came after years of hard work. Others still have a long way to go and the ride provides the vets with a unique opportunity to gain the strength they desperately need. The support and professional staff were great, always helpful and friendly. The course guides were amazingly powerful with great advice. The drivers, marshals, volunteers, and other support staff were helpful, feeding us and taking care of all our needs. Thank you all very much for a great experience!

It is a privilege, honour and joy to help (even if only in a small way) some of the heroic warriors who have defended Israel.

As a first time CIM volunteer but a long-time Beit Halochem volunteer, I was in awe of this tremendous program and its organizers. I was so proud of all the riders and, most especially, the veterans, overcoming so many challenges to be with us on our journey through Israel. I loved every minute of this experience.

My partner, Bonnie, and I experienced Courage in Motion last year and it was one of the the best trips we’ve ever done. The friendliness of everyone we encountered, including the international riders, Israeli veterans, organizers and support staff, plus the outstanding hospitality, really added to our enjoyment of the event. It was a great cycling experience with other like-minded cyclists and we fully plan to return this year. We hope to have other club members join us.

I participated along with a friend to help those who have given so much to the Jewish people and the state of Israel. The experience was incredibly memorable. I met the always-smiling veterans riding on the same challenging course as me. Their spirit moved me to push on when I thought I couldn’t.When we visited the Beit Halochem centres, my feeling for the organization grew. I saw what the dollars did and, with our help, will continue to do. I met a veteran – a ping pong champion – who brought me to tears when I saw how she managed. I was moved to see her elderly mother take care of her needs – along with the organization. As the days pass, my memories of this adventure will intensify and stay with me. We thank the organization for the great effort and hope its work continues. As for the future – who knows? I hope to participate again. Feel free to refer any undecided to me for encouragement. I am happy to share my experience.

Courage in Motion is one of those unforgettable life experiences. It allowed me to connect with a culture that I knew very little about and a community that is incredibly proud of its history and heritage. The trip’s predominant theme was the support the ride generates for the wounded warriors of Beit Halochem. It was humbling to see the organizers and riders so engaged in the trials and stories of those who lay their lives on the line every day to protect their nation. While this was a once-in-a-lifetime journey, it’s one I truly hope to repeat in 2019 and beyond!
